This week it seemed appropriate to dedicate an episode to the band Low after the passing of Mimi Parker. They were one of those rare bands who, after three decades of existence, remained true to a sound that was wholly theirs but also kept finding new paths within that landscape to keep moving and growing. The photo for the episode was one I took at the 1999 Halifax Pop Explosion. Low was still in their slow and quiet phase and a short while after this shot was taken Mimi left her drum kit to deal with a noisy patron who unwittingly stumbled to the front of the stage and disrupted the vibe everyone was enjoying. She gently took the collar of his shirt, turned him to face her and said something firmly enough to make him flee to the back of the room once more. It was an amazing show. She will be missed.
