Separately and together, Tortoise have been a cornerstone in the Chicago music scene for more than three decades and helped to early on define the (sometimes contentious) genre of post-rock. David Letellier emerged as Kangding Ray at the tail end of the Clicks and Cuts era of experimental techno. Recording extensively for the German Raster-Noton label he explored precision and the inner qualities of micro-detailed digital music. He currently runs his label, ara, and his soundtrack for the film Sirāt was recently released by Invada. He is this week's spotlight artist.
